The Overthinker’s Guide to Managing Anxiety is a 2-hour beginner training for anxious and stressed out overthinkers who are tired of feeling frazzled, worn-out, and exhausted from trying to balance out panic attacks, insomnia, and overanalyzing everything that doesn’t go their way.

  • What are cognitive distortions (hint: bad thoughts)
  • What is cognitive restructuring (hint: new thoughts)
  • Where your thinking patterns are coming from and what you can do about them now

Module 4: Manage your thoughts

  • The difference between productive and unproductive thoughts
  • How to slow yourself down and analyze your line of thinking (it will be like an episode of Law & Order)
  • The concepts of good food vs. junk food for the brain for all of the overthinkers that have to snack on something
  • The power of healthy interpretations, distraction, and directing a romance or a comedy, not a horror movie

Module 5: Let’s review

  • A review of how to tame the amygdala and the cortex
  • How bad thoughts (habits) are formed
  • How bad thoughts (habits) are changed
  • What is CBT
  • Making a case for the benefits of therapy
  • The importance of self-care, what it means, and how to do it right

A little bit about me:

I was raised with a strong focus on financial security so I naturally started out my career in business management and finance. My upbringing and education truly developed the Left side of my brain, and I was excelling in planning, organizing, and following directions. I was skilled at science-y stuff, sequencing ideas, reading non-fiction books, and living life in a very linear, logical sequence.

But as I was growing up, maturing, and diving into grown-up things like work and relationships, I realized something was missing in my life. To be totally honest, I was kind of miserable and I had lots of anxiety, over lots of things. I was young and I had extremely poor self-awareness. I could not explain my feelings, my anger, my fears, my interactions with other people, my quick jump to judgment, my biases, my strong opinions, my constant drive for more, nor my overwhelming nagging thought of “not being good enough.”

I tried my first therapy session. Unfortunately, I thought it was a waste of time and I hated it because the counselor told me “I shouldn’t feel anxiety because it’s irrational.”

Duh! I already knew that! Her invalidation reminded me of my early experiences when everyone in my family would tell me not to feel mad or sad or any other negative feeling they couldn’t handle and just to get over it! But the good thing that came out of that one and the only session was my homework assignment, reading an anxiety workbook. Things started to make sense and I was completely hooked. I was hungry for more. I went back to school and did my doctorate in clinical psychology.

Naturally, anxiety and mood management became one of my main interests and this course has been a passion project as I'm a strong believer (plus research shows) that anxiety is one of the easier mental health conditions to treat and be successful at....so, enjoy, learn and practice a lot, and let me know what you think.

Overthinking is anxiety's best friend. Thinking distortions are a big and consistent problem. Changing how we think is the solution. Module 3 will cover how to identify unhealthy and unproductive thinking patterns such as pessimistic thoughts, obsessions, too many rules, worst case scenarios, and guilt-producing ideas.
